Super-inspired Samson Oats is back with latest single “RUN GIRL”
There are plenty of ways to get inspired and plenty of people to seek inspiration from, and Samson Oats is feeling very inspired ahead of the release of his latest single “RUN GIRL”, a heartfelt cut about his partner’s former abusive relationship that was written, engineered, and produced by Oats himself. The song is eloquent, poignant and exactly how he wanted it to turn out.
“Originally the song was about something else, but as she opened up more to me about [her abusive relationship], the lyrics just flowed out one day,” said Samson Oats. “The verses illustrate the distress the protagonist is experiencing by bringing you directly into their mind.”
“The chorus explores the cognitive dissonance that she experienced as she attempted again and again to exit the situation, but still finding herself drawn back in,” he added.
Sonically, Oats is all over the place in the best possible way. He cites a wide range of artists as his influences, everyone from Kanye West to Oliver Tree to Jean Dawson. However, he doesn’t “really love the sound of any of these artists in particular” and tends to pick and choose from his broad spectrum of favorite creatives song by song. In the case of “RUN GIRL”, he took inspiration from Dinosaur Jr, Snail Mail, and “a dash of Alex G.”
The Fresno, California native is going to remain a busy man throughout 2023. He’s got at least three more songs to be released this year, all as part of a plan to “set the stage for Samson Oats in 2024 and beyond.” In addition to his burgeoning solo career, Oats is part of a band known as Delfino, and he says that they will also be releasing singles throughout the year. It’s clear that Samson Oats is well on his way towards accomplishing his dreams, and it’s only a matter of time that his name is up there with the most popular and accomplished musicians in the game.
