MMW’s latest track “Matrix” adds to his incredible discography
There are many young and hungry artists out there, but not many have the drive, determination and overall hip hop skills of MMW, one of Broward County, Florida’s hottest up and coming artists. His music serves as a great juxtaposition to the rest of the South Florida scene, with introspective lyrics over beats not typically rapped on by artists who were raised on the same stomping grounds as Kodak Black and Ski Mask the Slump God.
Music, especially hip hop in America, has become less and less about where the artist is from and more so about the music that they create. MMW is joining the countless other rappers who are so diverse that it’s hard to pinpoint where they are from, but he’s doing it with more finesse than your average MC.
According to MMW, his latest musical influences have been “spearheaded” by Earl Sweatshirt, Mike, Navy Blue, Mavi and Westside Gunn. He is also looking to his musical roots for inspiration too; he was raised in a Christian household where the three preferred genres were gospel, jazz and neo-soul. Sample-based hip hop, according to him, is the fusion of all three genres into one sound.
Lyrically, MMW spits straight from the heart, and you can tell right from the start of the track.
“My verse indulges in the fantasy of attaining the level of success I desire as an artist,” said MMW. “My ultimate goal is to express my purest truth while creating vulnerable, honest bangers. To me, that’s the pinnacle of art.”
And it’s only going to get better as time goes on for MMW. He’s just relocated to Atlanta with two of his close friends, and claims that the change of pace was just what the doctor ordered. What’s more, he’s got a collaborative project with producer Second Wizards in the works, with singles to be dropping up until its completion. In the meantime, you’ll just have to rock with the rest of his incredible discography.
